ARCTIC SCIENCE MINISTERIAL (ASM4)

Scientific research in the Arctic region

Russia is developing international work to study climate change in the Arctic and will chair the Arctic Council until 2023. According to the established tradition, the country will coordinate activities within the framework of the Arctic Science Ministerial (ASM) association, and the Russian State Hydrometeorological University has been identified as responsible for this work. France will act as a co-coordinator in matters of holding events within the framework of the ASM.

The main task within the framework of the ASM4 format is to ensure the consistency and continuity of the ASM process, taking into account the priorities of Russia's chairmanship of the Arctic Council.

The theme of "Responsible Governance for a Sustainable Arctic" will be a cross-cutting priority of Russia's chairmanship of the Arctic Council. Following directions will be the main ones in the activity in the ASM4 format:

1. The population of the Arctic, including indigenous peoples.

2. Environmental protection, including climate change issues.

3. Socio-economic development.

4. Strengthening the Arctic Council.

In the next two years, the Arctic Council will deal with the priority issues of ensuring better living and managing the economy of the indigenous peoples of the North, increasing the availability of high-quality general and additional education in remote areas and hard-to-reach villages, developing distance learning and modern technologies.
